Russian tax legislation allows setting different transport charges for each region, and the regional authorities themselves can determine the amount charged, as well as incentives and benefits.

In August 2012, Maxim Reshetnikov, head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development of Moscow, made a statement about the need to increase the transport tax in the capital. In his opinion, the current rate of payments is minimal, and the number of cars on the roads of the capital is very large. At the same time, a separate tariff must be introduced for wealthy car owners. By the way, in 2011, Alexander Sarychev, director of the Research Institute of Transport and Road Transport, made the same proposal. He argued that the tax should be increased 6-7 times.

Moscow has recently raised parking fees, and the tax increase could be another measure to reduce the traffic load on the city's infrastructure. However, the head of the Department did not mention either the specific rate at which the car owners will have to pay, or the timing of this project. This means that while the owners of "iron horses" have nothing to worry about.

However, the increase in the transport tax will still affect some citizens. In July 2012, the Ministry of Finance prepared a bill according to which the tax rate for cars with engine power exceeding 410 hp will be increased from 2013. True, this does not apply to sports cars and to vehicles manufactured before 2000. At the moment, the amount of tax on transport in Moscow is determined based on the rate of 7-150 rubles. for each unit of engine horsepower. However, the specialists of the Federal Tax Service for Moscow provide benefits for certain categories of the population. According to the legislation in the capital, one of the parents in a large family is exempted from payments for one vehicle.
