Thresholds are a critical part in a car. If they are rotten or do not inspire confidence, then they must be replaced. You can weld the threshold yourself if you have the simplest welding equipment.
Necessary
Wrenches, drill, grinder, putty
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the front and rear doors before starting work. Then detach the aluminum sill that is located at the bottom of the door seals. Also, remove the carpets from the passenger compartment and raise the upholstery so that nothing interferes with this procedure.
Step 2
After that, carefully remove the old thresholds. To do this, mark the spot welds, which are usually at the front and rear doors and at the B-pillar. Next, take a drill in your hands and drill out the welding. You can also get rid of the thresholds with a grinder.
Step 3
Thoroughly clean the surface, remove all traces of rust and cut off any parts of the underbody that are also rotten or corroded. Then clean and degrease the paint and weld areas. Do not forget to take care of the connection points of the new threshold. To do this, leave areas of the order of 5-6 cm on the front and back of the wing.
Step 4
Take a new threshold and attach it. After that, the connector at the front should clearly dock with the old one. At the rear, overlap the sill with the stretcher reinforcement. When finished, shorten the amplifier and cut out around the B-pillar. This measure is necessary so that the remainder of the old does not interfere with the work.
Step 5
Weld the amplifier to the connector. Fit the outer sill panel as precisely as possible, then drill the weld holes. Fix the panel with self-tapping screws and weld it to the amplifier through the previously made holes. Do not forget about the connector to be attached to the underbody.
Step 6
Weld the leftover metal to the sills and also patch the bottom side. Thoroughly sand and putty the welds over the entire surface. After that, apply a layer of soil and paint the thresholds. Reinstall all the removed parts of the car.
