Over time, the headlights of any car become cloudy, becoming covered with micro-scratches, into which dust gets. You can restore the headlights by purchasing polish and polishing the headlights after washing them. The headlights will become cleaner, but after a while they will again "become overgrown" with dust and become cloudy. The polish perfectly fills cracks and chips, but is quickly washed out. There is another, more effective way.
Necessary
- - Grinder or at least a drill or screwdriver with a nozzle (in extreme cases, you will have to polish the headlights with sandpaper by hand);
- - Sandpaper (grit 1500, 2000 and 4000);
- - Polishing paste (it is desirable to have two compositions with different roughness of cleaning);
- - Masking tape;
- - Foam sponge;
- - Velvet cloth.
Instructions
Step 1
With skins and special pastes, it is necessary to remove the top layer from the headlight cap, without filling, but simply removing scratches. Of course, you cannot endlessly use this method (plastic is not eternal), but repeating this process is enough only once every 3-5 years.
Step 2
The first step is to prepare the headlights. They can be removed from the car, or you can glue the adjacent parts of the car with several layers of tape so as not to accidentally damage them.
Step 3
Coarse polishing and surface leveling. Use a 1500 grit sandpaper to remove any scratched top coat from the headlight. Water your headlights regularly to make it easier to work. If using a drill or screwdriver, do not press the bit too hard and keep the RPM below average. This is followed by sanding 2000, and then 4000. The headlamp cover will become noticeably dimmer, but the surface will be leveled, which is what you wanted.
Step 4
Polishing. Take a foam sponge and start working with the polishing paste. First comes a coarser paste (if there are several compositions), and then a less coarse one.
Step 5
Then you can polish the headlamp to a shine with a soft velvet cloth or a soft sander attachment. At this point, the process of grinding the headlights can be considered complete. It remains only to remove the masking tape or install the headlights in place and connect them.
