Every car owner has to change the engine oil from time to time. The oil change scheme is usually spelled out in the vehicle operating instructions. You can perform this procedure yourself without going to a workshop. It is only important to follow the correct sequence of actions and be careful.
Necessary
- - oil;
- - new oil filter;
- - container for waste oil;
- - plastic or metal funnel;
- - keys set;
- - electric flashlight;
- - clean rags;
- - latex gloves.
Instructions
Step 1
Carefully read the oil change recommendations in the manufacturer's instructions. You will learn how often you need to change the oil in your car engine, and you can also choose the specific type of oil that matches the brand of the car.
Step 2
Inspect the vehicle engine to determine the type of oil filter and its location. Make sure you can easily fit a container under the car to drain the old oil. For the convenience of carrying out the operation to change the oil, you should drive onto the overpass or raise the car on jacks.
Step 3
Find the location of the drain hole through which the old oil is removed. Inspect the oil sump and select the correct size wrench for it. You will also need an oil filter wrench, funnel, container, protective gloves, rags and a flashlight to work.
Step 4
Drive the car onto an overpass and set it on the handbrake. Make sure the machine is securely located and cannot move on its own. Turn off the engine and wait for a while for the oil to cool. Remove all engine covers.
Step 5
Place a container to drain the old oil under the oil pan. Use a wrench to loosen the plug by turning it counterclockwise. Start unscrewing the plug by hand. When you reach the end, take your hand to the side, placing a container under the hole to drain the old oil. Make sure that the oil does not splash on the sides, but flows directly into the container. When all the oil is drained, replace the plug.
Step 6
Prepare a new oil filter by applying a thin layer of oil to the rubber gasket. Make sure the filter flange is not damaged. Dismantle the old filter and install the new one in its place. Clean all oil stains with a rag.
Step 7
Pour new oil into the oil filter through a funnel. Replace the filter cover. Remove used rags and tools. Start the engine without increasing its speed. Make sure no new oil leaks. Check the oil level in the system and adjust if necessary.
