Leakage in a car's electrical circuit is one of the most common malfunctions. And if insignificant losses during constant operation of the vehicle can be easily compensated for by recharging, then with a long idle time, the battery may be completely discharged. In addition, leakage can result from the destruction of the insulating layer of the wires. This creates the risk of a short circuit and a fire in the vehicle. How to detect current leakage?

Step 1
Experts advise periodically checking electrical equipment in order to identify leaks. Allowable losses are from 0.02 to 0.05 A. If the value exceeds these values, it is necessary to identify and eliminate the malfunction. This is not difficult to do.
Step 2
Set the device to the mode of measuring direct current in the range of 10-20 A. Remove the wire from the negative terminal of the battery. Plug the device into the gap formed. To do this, connect one of its probe with the "minus" of the battery, and the second with the end of the removed wire. Now you can see how much current flows from the battery into the car's wiring. If its value does not exceed 0.05 A, everything is in order. Ideally, there should be no current in the car circuit at all. If the value is small, it may go to the clock and the signaling.
Step 3
If there is an alarm, remove the wire from the control limit switch. With the doors closed, arm the car. After 2 minutes, the alarm system will enter sleep mode. The leakage current can now be checked.
Step 4
If the alarm system has not entered sleep mode, disable it.
Step 5
Start checking the network with the salon. Remove the cover of the radio, deactivate the sleep mode of the alarm. Examine all lighting bulbs.
Step 6
Lock the end switch for the interior lighting in the depressed position. The ignition must be off. Remove the fuses from the mounting block one by one and check the readings of the device. If, when removing one of the fuses, the current value decreases to the permissible values, then a malfunction in the circuit has been detected. Inspect this section of the wiring carefully and fix the problem.
Step 7
If the leak rate remains high, inspect all wiring. Also check the starter motor, alternator and accessories connected directly to the battery one by one.
