However, outdoor enthusiasts and summer residents are faced with such a problem that their favorite bike does not fit into their small car. The modern industry has found a solution to this problem - a car trunk.

Step 1
First, decide on the type of attachment. For example, on older cars, the base is fixed to the gutters. Certain models have roof fixing points (fix-points), so all you have to do is find rails that fit your vehicle from the manufacturer. Machines with large dimensions have so-called roof rails, that is, attached arches. This is extremely convenient, since in this case the installation of the trunk will take very little time. There are also systems where the supports are inserted into special grooves on the roof, but these are rare. The most common option is fastening with brackets in doorways; they are designed in such a way that they do not damage the coating and door seals. In the case of a three-door car, where there is nowhere to attach the rear brackets, the main load will be distributed to the front doors, while the rear rests on the roof. There are also options on magnets, but such mounts are not popular, because they scratch the paint and do not guarantee full grip, which is fraught with the load falling off directly onto the car driving after you.
Step 2
Select the type of cross bar. A cheap option is steel rectangular rods. They are not very pretty, and the lack of aerodynamics leads to annoying driving noise. A more expensive option is aluminum. They are made taking into account aerodynamics, they look much more presentable, but they cost a lot. The advantage of aluminum rods will be their great resistance to corrosion and the absence of noise when driving.
Step 3
A popular choice for cyclists is the tailgate option. It cannot be called extremely successful, since in this case you will have a reduced view, it will be more difficult to reverse, plus the property attached to the back will be constantly in the mud. Fasteners for such trunks are either inserted along the edges of the doorway from above and below, or "paws" are attached, or everything is secured with straps. These racks, with regular use, can cause the tailgate to sag. You can also choose the option of mounting on a towbar, which is more durable and carrying capacity.
Step 4
Choose a way to place your luggage. It is better to put things in the car trunk in a special device so as not to damage the trunk walls. You can buy a large box that can hold a lot of things, or choose a pallet that converts into a basket.
