A hydraulic compensator is an engine element that serves to compensate for the gap between the valve tappet and the timing shaft. With a constant clicking sound with a warm engine, you need to find a faulty hydraulic lifter.

Instructions

Step 1

Remember that the clicking sound propagates well enough through the metal that it is difficult to identify the faulty part. In order to facilitate the search process, build a small device. Take a steel rod that is about 70 cm long and about 5 mm thick. The best option would be to use a cable from the drive for opening the rear boot lid of the Zhiguli.

Step 2

Attach an empty can of, for example, beer, to one end of the steel bar. Cut off the top of the can and place a wooden handle in the middle of the shaft to prevent your hand from absorbing sounds. With this tool, you can easily find a faulty hydraulic lifter in the engine. To do this, put your ear to the inner cavity and listen carefully to where extraneous noises and knocks come from.

Step 3

Remove the hydraulic lifter, which, in your opinion, is most likely inoperative, disassemble and rinse it thoroughly. For this, a magnet is suitable, with which this part can be easily removed. If the expansion joint is jammed or it is strongly stuck, remove it with a puller. Carefully inspect the working surface and if there are signs of wear, replace them immediately. In case of minor defects, wash the part in a solvent, having previously disassembled the hydraulic compensator.

Step 4

Remember to fill the hydraulic compensator with oil before installation. Pay attention to this, because installing empty products can lead to high shock loads. After that, check its functionality by gently squeezing it in a clamp. Significant compression resistance for about 30 seconds will be a sign of a working part. Wait a few minutes and then start the engine.
