The main symptom of a malfunction of the anti-roll bar struts is knocking on the front suspension when driving on uneven roads. The stabilizer struts are a non-repairable unit and are replaced with new ones in the event of a breakdown. The most common reasons for their failure are driving on uneven roads, factory defects or aging of metal.

Necessary

  • - jack, lift and wheel chocks;
  • - new racks and anthers;
  • - set of wrenches;
  • - WD-40 liquid

Instructions

Step 1

When purchasing new stabilizer struts, buy only those designed for the vehicle being repaired. In terms of appearance, most of the stanchions appear to be the same, but in reality they are rarely interchangeable. Check with the seller or subtract on the packaging to see if they fit. If you do not have the necessary ones, you can buy similar ones recommended in the spare parts catalog.

Step 2

Park the car on a level surface, secure it with the parking brake and wheel chocks. Suspend the front or rear axle of the vehicle from a jack or lift. In this case, the level of the wheels of one axle must be the same in order for the suspension to be in balance. Even a slight misalignment of the suspension may result in incorrect installation of new struts. Many manufacturers put on shipping caps on new racks to protect the anthers from damage during storage and transportation of these parts. The shipping caps must be removed immediately prior to installing new stands.

Step 3

To remove the stabilizer bar, use a wrench to unscrew the edges on the ball pin. Then lock the key and unscrew the stand. Clean the thread with a wire brush, lubricate with WD-40 fluid. When replacing the struts, inspect the anthers located on the hinges. If they are torn, damaged, it is better to replace them with new ones. If the purchased set of stabilizer struts is equipped with new anthers, it is better to discard the old ones. Be careful when carrying out repair work: a broken wrench can easily damage the boot.

Step 4

Install the new part without tightening the nuts all the way. If the job is done correctly, there is little effort required to install a new rack. Perform final tightening of the nuts only after removing the vehicle from the jack or lift. After replacing the struts, you do not need to adjust the descent and camber.
