Fans of such rare cars as GAZ-12, M-13 or GAZ-21 "Volga" know that these models can have direction indicator switches of a peculiar design. The switch is mounted on the steering wheel hub and is operated by hand. Correct adjustment of the switch can improve the driving reliability.
Necessary
- - screwdriver;
- - probe.
Instructions
Step 1
Familiarize yourself with the direction indicator switch device. In a GAZ-12 car, the switch, for example, includes a housing, a handle, a screw for fastening a switching mechanism, a retainer spring, a base, a contact plate, wires and additional fasteners. The switch is controlled by moving the handle, which leads to the connection of the electric circuit of the lamps and the speedometer warning lamp.
Step 2
Adjust the clearance between the washer pins and the ejector cam. Normally, it should be within 0.5-1 mm. To adjust, unscrew the knob and then remove the six mounting screws.
Step 3
Turn the steering wheel until one of the washer pads is against the ejector cam.
Step 4
Loosen the four screws and adjust the clearance by moving the switch mechanism directly along its axis.
Step 5
Tighten the screws and check with a feeler gauge the gap between all the washer drivers. If the required dimensions of the gap are not maintained, slightly bend the washer driver and repeat the adjustment from the very beginning.
Step 6
Assemble the switch into a single piece by tightening the screws securely. Check the functionality of the assembled mechanism by sequentially switching the switch to different modes.
Step 7
Test the switch on the fly. To do this, drive the car several circles in different directions. The switch should automatically turn off as soon as the vehicle exits the bend. Make sure that the operation of the switch is synchronized with the indicator light on the instrument panel.
Step 8
If additional settings are required during the check of the switch operability, then for the convenience of adjusting the clearance, additionally remove the steering wheel and loosen the screws securing the ring holder. Move the ring in the desired direction and adjust the switch as described above.
