One of the most important maintenance activities for Ford vehicles is replacing the front brake pads. It must be produced immediately after the appearance of characteristic signs of their wear, because otherwise they will not provide good braking, which is fraught with undesirable consequences, both for the driver himself and for his passengers.
Necessary
- - jack;
- - a wrench for wheel nuts;
- - hex key to "7";
- - large screwdriver;
- - pliers with thin jaws.
Instructions
Step 1
First, park the car on a level surface and ensure it is completely immobile by placing the gear lever in position P. After that, be sure to check the brake fluid level, if it reaches the “MAX” mark, pump it out a little with a rubber bulb or syringe.
Step 2
Next, raise the right side of the machine with a jack and, after unscrewing the front wheel nuts, turn it towards you to make it easier to work. Insert a screwdriver between the piston and the inner brake pad and push the piston into the cylinder. This is to ensure that the new pads fit well into place. Then, using fine jaw pliers, remove the bent edges of the outer brake pad retainer from the holes in the caliper and remove the retainer.
Step 3
Using a large screwdriver, gently pry up the guide pin grommet covers and remove these covers. Using a hex wrench, first unscrew the lower and then the upper guide pin, and then remove the caliper and inner block. During this work, make sure that the brake hose is not twisted or stretched. Remove the outer brake pad by pulling it out of the grooves in the rail.
Step 4
Check the condition of the spring clip of the outer pad and, if corrosion or deformation is found, replace it. Insert a new brake pad. When this procedure is completed, reinstall all previously removed parts in reverse order. Remember to lubricate the thread of the guide pins with an anaerobic lock to prevent them from loosening. Press the brake pedal a couple of times to bring the new pads closer to the brake discs.
Step 5
Replace the brake pad on the left front wheel in the same way. At the end of the work, check the fluid level and, if necessary, restore it.
