Currently, disc brakes are in great demand, both for foreign cars and for our cars. For the first time, such brake pads began to be mass-produced on the VAZ-2108 model, but every year they began to appear more and more on domestic models. True, quite often, such "discs" are installed on the front wheels, which are considered the busiest, and the rear brakes are equipped with conventional drum brakes. Nowadays, many companies are abandoning drum brakes, which is why there is a problem in how to install disc brakes. Using proven methods, you can easily install them without the help of specialists in the car dealership.
Necessary
- - two new axle shafts and bearings for them;
- - 2 locking disposable rings;
- - a small package with hardware for attaching the axle shafts to the wheel;
- - thread sealant and brackets to secure the caliper securely.
Instructions
Step 1
You need to start by taking out the old axle shafts and removing outdated and rusty rings and bearings from them. Usually, such a ring keeps the pulling force within 3 tons, therefore, they can only be torn off under pressure. That is why, if you do not have a powerful press, you should slightly file the ring and split it with a powerful blow of a chisel.
Step 2
Then you should get the bearings, which also need to be knocked down or sawed. After this process, the axle shaft is thoroughly cleaned of impurities using gasoline or diesel fuel, and especially carefully we wipe the place right at the seat limiter of the bearing itself.
Step 3
Then you can take a new bearing, after wiping its inner surface from grease, and install it in the bore hole on the axle shaft. In general, the bearings should fit so tightly that there is no gap between it and the special stop stop.
Step 4
Next, you need to clean the thrust ring, preheating it on the burner. Immediately after heating the ring, it must be placed flat on the bearing and allowed to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Step 5
After the thrust ring has cooled, you can already install the disk itself on top, and fix it. We fix it with a caliper, and it should ideally stand exactly in the middle of the disc.
Thus, you will be able to install disc brakes quite quickly and at no extra cost.
