Step 1
Clean any dust and dirt from the case, vents and battery cover. After you clean off the dirt, wipe the battery surface with a mild, no more than 10% solution of ammonia. It is best to use cotton pads or swabs for wiping.
Step 2
Inspect the plastic housing for damage and scratches. Remove minor chips yourself with a blowtorch. If you find more serious damage, then contact a specialist.
Step 3
Remove deposits from the leads and terminals with warm water. And to remove the oxide film, use a fine-grained sandpaper. When installing the battery in its place, be sure to treat all the terminals with lithol and carefully tighten all the bolts.
Step 4
Determine the battery charge level and check the condition of individual cells. To determine whether the battery is charged or not, the load plug will help. If it is not possible to check the state of charge yourself, contact competent specialists who will help you prepare the battery. If it is not charged, or is half charged, then charge the device to the end.
Step 5
Check the distilled water level in the battery. If there is not enough of it, add the required amount. Be sure to check the density of the electrolyte. If the density level shows below 1.27, then it is best to replace the battery with another, but do not try to use this one.
Step 6
Change your engine oil to one with a lower viscosity. This will allow the motor to start much faster and therefore less stress on the battery.
