Instructions

Step 1

To select the correct size of tires for your car, first of all, you need to understand the designations printed on the tires themselves. The manufacturer is written on any bus. When choosing tires, stick to only well-known manufacturers and do not give preference to little-known companies, despite the low price of their products. As you know, the miser pays twice. By saving in price, you get disgusting performance and put yourself and your passengers at risk. Well-known firms include Nokian, Yokohama, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Dunlop.

Step 2

When choosing tires, be guided by their standard size. It is applied to the side of the tire and usually has the following form (example) 185 / 70R15 82T. The first number (185) indicates the profile width in millimeters. The second number (70) is the profile height. It is indicated as a percentage, as a ratio to the width of the profile. It is easy to calculate that for our example it will be equal to 129.5 mm. Sometimes the profile height is also called a series. The R15 designation indicates the diameter of the wheel on which you can fit the selected tire. It can also be concluded from the designation that you are dealing with a radial type of tire, as indicated by the letter R. The number 82 indicates the load factor on the tire in kg. And the letter T is the maximum tire speed at which the manufacturer guarantees the preservation of the declared characteristics for its products. The explanation of the last two designations is given in the corresponding tables.

Step 3

When choosing the size of tires, follow the manufacturer's instructions, where the permissible sizes of wheels, disks, tires are precisely indicated. Remember that the manufacturer, when listing the standard sizes of tires and wheels suitable for your car, carried out special engineering calculations related to the kinematics of the car's suspension. The load on the transmission elements, the effort on the steering wheel, the ride comfort of the passengers and the driver were taken into account. All calculations were substantiated by further tests. Do not trust other opinions when choosing tires - any violation of the instructions entails consequences that negatively affect the car.
