Bicycles are reliable wheeled transport. Of course, breakdowns do happen sometimes. If you need to replace the rear wheel, you can do the job yourself. This is usually necessary if a tire or wheel rim is damaged.
Necessary
Bicycle, new rear wheel, tool kit
Instructions
Step 1
If you decide to replace the rear wheel of your bike, decide which brakes are installed. The sequence of your actions depends on this.
Step 2
If the brakes are disc brakes, no special operations are required. But the rim brakes will need to be released first. If you don't, then you simply won't be able to remove the rear wheel.
Step 3
If your bike has V-BRAKES, start by squeezing the pads. This will make it possible to remove the arc. It is necessary to squeeze at the place where the cable is attached. To carry out this operation, special efforts are not required.
Step 4
Turn the bike upside down by placing it on the handlebar and saddle. Beforehand, you should remove the navigator, travel computer or other valuable equipment.
Step 5
Before carrying out work, you need to take care of the gearshift knob and the brake lever. Place a soft cloth underneath. This will protect the devices from damage.
Step 6
If a hydraulic brake is installed, do not keep the bike upside-down for long periods of time. It is possible that you will take a long time to change the wheel. Remember that air can enter the hydraulics. If this happens, it is necessary to bleed the brakes.
Step 7
The cleaning procedure for hydraulic brakes is quite time consuming. Of course, you don't need to bleed the brakes, but then they will not work properly. This cannot be allowed.
Step 8
The rear wheel of the bicycle is fixed to the axle. There are different mounts, the sequence of your actions depends on its type. If the mount is wrench, a pair of wrenches are required to work. Tighten the nut, unscrew the second with another wrench.
Step 9
It is not necessary to completely unscrew the nut. Turn the key a few turns. After that, the wheel can be removed quite easily.
Step 10
If we talk about the eccentric, then removing the wheel will be even easier. You just need to unscrew its lever. After that, you need to twist it counterclockwise. You can remove the wheel.
Step 11
Be aware of the chain running through the bike's gearshift system. Carefully remove it from the sprockets, leaving it against the frame.
Step 12
Grasp the wheel and pull it up, it will come out effortlessly. Pay attention to the next point. If your bike has disc brakes, you do not need to press the handle with the wheel removed. The fact is that such manipulations lead to compression of the pads.
Step 13
Loosen the pads. Only after that start installing the wheel. Reverse the procedure when returning the rear wheel to its place.
