In order to improve the technical characteristics, as well as the appearance of the car, many motorists install larger diameter wheels. To do this, you need to choose the right alloy wheels. This can be done only if you know and be able to calculate the maximum permissible wheel size for a given car.

It is necessary

  • - new discs;
  • - tires.

Instructions

Step 1

Determine the maximum wheel size that can be used on this particular vehicle. You can find this size in the technical documentation for the machine. Some car brands have a sticker indicating the possible wheel options and the pressure in them. Most often, this sticker can be found on the pillar that is located between the rear and front doors.

Step 2

Match the wheel to the size of the tire. Calculate the width of the disc rim. To do this, find the value of the width in the tire size, for example, for a 135/80 R13 tire, the width is 135 mm. The rim width should be about 25% narrower. Then we multiply the profile width by 0.75 and get the rim width in millimeters. Since the disc width is measured in inches, divide this value by 25, 4. Round the result to the nearest standard disc width. If the rim is too wide or too narrow, the tire will deform and wear out too quickly. At the same time, its performance will deteriorate significantly.

Step 3

If the car is designed to use 13-inch discs, then when installing discs with a new diameter, select the rubber so that the diameter of the wheel assembly does not increase. In order to calculate the diameter of the wheel, determine the size of the tire. Then make the calculation in several stages:

1. multiply the diameter of the disc by the number 2.54 to convert it from inches to centimeters;

2. the first number of the standard size, which indicates the width of the tire in millimeters, convert to centimeters, dividing by 10;

3. Multiply the value obtained in step 2 by the second number of the standard size, which means the percentage of the profile height to its width, and divide the result by 100;

4. the resulting number multiply by 2;

5. Add the numbers obtained in points 1 and 4, this will be the diameter of the car wheel with the new disc.

Step 4

Then measure the dimensions of the wheel arch and determine if the new wheel can rotate freely in it. If not, choose a rubber with a lower profile.
