The thresholds of any car are constantly exposed to negative influences. But even if the metal is completely rusted as a result of these influences, the threshold can be digested on your own, without going straight to the workshop.
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the rusted threshold with an ordinary grinder. First cut it along the seam along the pillars of the car, and then finally dismantle it using a hammer and chisel.
Step 2
Remove the rust from the box on which the old threshold was reinforced. In order to clean up future welds, use sandpaper or a drill with a grinding attachment.
Step 3
Prepare the threshold amplifier for installation on the car. Take scissors for metal and cut notches in the places where the amplifier will dock with the car pillars. Use scissors to make technological holes in the places of future welding.
Step 4
Secure the threshold amplifier with quick-release clamps, rivets or magnets. Check if the amplifier is securely installed. Then weld it on. To avoid unsightly seams, which not only make it difficult to level the threshold, but can also disfigure the car's appearance, use the spot welding method. At the end of the first stage of welding, carefully and thoroughly grind off excess metal.
Step 5
Now, in the same way, weld the threshold blank, having previously securely fixed it. Treat new seams: grind and, if possible, coat with an anti-corrosion compound. Putty seams to smooth out bumps and bumps. Sand all welded parts again.
Step 6
Cover the filler surface with one or two coats of primer. After it dries, apply several coats of enamel to the welded parts. When the enamel is dry, cover it first with a special anti-gravel compound (optional), and then with varnish.
Step 7
If you don't have a welding machine, hire a welder. To save money, do all the preparatory work for digesting the car threshold and fitting the parts yourself.
