The European Independent Crash Test Committee Euro NCAP has rated the Volvo V40 as the safest vehicle ever tested. The Swedish car was subjected to a series of tests, each of which it passed with flying colors.
In total, the Volvo V40 was tested in four safety categories: passenger-child, passenger-adult, pedestrian and assisted safety systems. In each category, the car scored 75, 98, 88 and 100%, respectively. All in all, this means a "five star" rating and an honorable first place in safety. The aim of the development of the new Volvo V40 was to create the safest car in the compact class. All security systems were developed as an integral part of the car, all components work in concert and interact with each other in different types of road accidents. The safety of adult passengers and the driver is ensured, first of all, by a special sequence of inflating the airbags. First, the airbag located opposite the windshield is inflated, as shrapnel can injure a person. Thanks to this, the pillow will not harm the passenger, even if he does not sit in a standard position. The front belts are equipped with a self-adjustment system for shoulder height, as well as the possibility of additional tension. The advanced WHIPS system protects the passenger from side impacts and whiplash. In addition to side airbags, the car is also equipped with inflatable "curtains", and as standard. The front airbags of the Volvo V40 are also interesting: depending on the force of the impact, they can inflate by 70% or completely. Child safety in the Volvo V40 is average. The standard ISOFIX child seat anchorage system yielded only 75% in the respective category. However, the car also has an advantage here: the Volvo V40 is the first manufacturer in the world in which the ISOFIX child seat can be installed against the direction of travel. The main trump card of the Volvo V40, thanks to which it received the title of the safest, is the pedestrian protection system. If at a speed of less than 50 km / h the car “detects” pedestrians or an obstacle ahead, the system stops the car. In addition, there is monitoring of blind spots, a lane departure system, an automatic valet parking, an emergency braking assistant, dynamic control and stabilization of traction, etc. The Volvo V40 is the world's first car with pedestrian airbags. If sensors located in the front of the car detect contact with a person's legs, the control unit unlocks the hood, it rises by 10 cm and the rigid elements are covered with an airbag.
