Someone treats any transport with apprehension, convulsively grabbing chairs in the hope of safety. Someone studies statistics, choosing the most successful airlines or trains, others, fingers crossed, sit only in certain places. And someone completely believes only in chance and looks with sarcasm at such attempts to deceive fate. So is there initially the safest, and vice versa - the most risky transport?
Vehicle safety statistics in relation to the number of deaths to kilometers traveled
1st place: Air transport
Despite the widespread fear of airplanes, air transport is one of the safest in terms of death rates in relation to the distance traveled. Serious pre-flight checks, constant modifications and aerodynamic developments increase the safety of aircraft, as airlines are an important part of any country's image. So, according to statistics, there are only 0.6 deaths per 160 million kilometers. This means that in order to get into this risk zone, a passenger must spend about 50 years in a continuous flight.
2nd place: Railway transport
For all the same 160 million kilometers, according to general statistics, only 0.9 passengers die.
3rd place: Motor transport
Car accidents claim the lives of approximately 1.5 people per 160 million kilometers and as many as 50 motorcyclists at the same distance. Just think, the mortality rate of bikers is 30 times higher than that of motorists, which makes motorcycles one of the top most dangerous types of transport.
The safest transport in the opinion of the public
Armed with only logic and discarding complex calculations and statistics, the safest transport among the population is … a tram! Electric fuel makes the tram non-explosive and economical, movement on rails allows avoiding skids and dangerous trajectories, and speed and good mechanical protection makes it easy to maneuver in the traffic flow of a big city.
