The heater of a VAZ-2109 car, as a rule, does not distribute hot air evenly to the windshield and to the legs. Its modernization, carried out on the VAZ-2114 model, did not solve this problem. Therefore, each owner will have to solve this problem independently.

It is necessary

  • - bitoplast and polystyrene;
  • - acrylic or silicone sealant;
  • - a set of keys and screwdrivers;
  • - coolant and a container for collecting it;
  • - sheet of aluminum or copper

Instructions

Step 1

Drain the coolant into a separate bowl. To do this, open the plastic wing valve located at the bottom of the radiator, near the generator. Remove the coolant remaining in the heater radiator with a piece of hose and funnel. Remove the air ducts and pay attention to the misalignment of the holes located in the panel with the stove nozzles. If the skew is more than 50%, file the interior heater.

Step 2

Remove the dashboard, having previously marked the connectors of the bulbs and switches with a felt-tip pen or colored tape. Remove the steering wheel, steering column switches and steering column trim. Then dismantle the heater. To do this, unscrew 4 M10 nuts, carefully disconnecting the ground wire connector on the far right. Disconnect all connectors on the heater housing, including the power connectors for the lights and speed switches.

Step 3

Remove the radiator hoses and the cable latch at the stove faucet. Remove the heater by unscrewing the 2 fan screws. At the same time, take care of the safety of the thrust bearing and rubber washers. Remove the heater radiator by unscrewing 3 bolts. Be careful - there may be coolant in it.

Step 4

Make turbulators. Standard turbulators (swirlers) are plastic spirals that increase the heat transfer of the radiator. They should be factory installed, but often they just aren't there. For self-production of swirlers, cut copper or aluminum plates 6 mm wide and 1.5 mm thick. Clamp one side of the plate in a drill, the other in a vice and twist into a spiral.

Step 5

Inspect the lower wall of the heater and make sure that it has no deformations, integrity violations, displacements and other defects. You can determine the integrity by looking into the hole for installing the radiator. After that, disassemble the heater by separating the body into two halves. To do this, use a screwdriver to open the latches and unscrew the screw under the central nozzle. Then remove the flap control levers.

Step 6

Assess the condition of the inner surface of the heater. Glue the detached foam rubber and add a few strips of bitoplast. Position the latter so that at the extreme position of the dampers, the body is as tight as possible. Adjust the center flap correctly.

Step 7

Before assembling the heater, grease the mounting points of the shutters. When connecting the halves of the heater housing, apply acrylic or silicone sealant to the connector surface. Assemble the heater in the reverse order of disassembly. If there is deformation on the lower ribbed wall, fill the gap created when joining the halves with sealant.

Step 8

There should be no gaps between the radiator and the heater housing. The standard foam strip has little effect. Therefore, glue Bitoplast at the junction of the case with the radiator. Balance the fan impeller by experimentally winding wire around the blades. Pass the wires through the rubber plug in the stove body. The mesh of the fan casing, which protects the heater from leaves, quickly clogs and obstructs the air flow. Once you've decided it's useless, remove the grid.

Step 9

Adjust the damper travel, considering that the factory adjustment is of poor quality. In this case, be guided by the fact that the levers must have a clear fixation in the extreme positions, especially the levers of the central and main flaps. Carry out adjustments by selecting the positions of the casing. Then adjust the heater tap. The design provides for either incomplete opening of the valve, or its incomplete closing. Select a position in which the valve does not close fully.

Step 10

Apply sealant to the radiator hoses and pipes before installing them. Use only new clamps. After final assembly, filling with coolant and warming up the engine to operating temperature, tighten the clamps again. Before installing the dashboard, glue foam and bitoplast on the inlet holes of the nozzles and make holes in them with a sufficient margin.
