Before learning how to drive properly, decide which car you are going to do it with, which gearbox it is equipped with, automatic or mechanical. Although the general driving principles are the same, there are some differences between the two. The fear of driving disappears if you approach your studies slowly, consistently mastering all the subtleties of driving.
Instructions
Step 1
Adjust the driver's seat of the car so that your body feels free. The seats are usually height adjustable and can be moved back and forth. In new cars, this setting can be done automatically.
Step 2
Adjust the mirrors so that you can see everything that is happening behind you. Try to position the mirrors so that there are no invisible zones left when looking at them. When looking at the outside mirrors, you should be able to see the edges of the rear bumper and they should also be vertically adjusted.
Step 3
Remember the position of the pedals. If you are driving a car with an automatic transmission, there will be only two pedals. The pedal on the right is the gas pedal, pressing it sets the car in motion. The left pedal is the brake pedal and is usually larger. In the case of a manual transmission, there is also a clutch pedal.
Step 4
Remember the location and operation of the handbrake. This is a lever with a button at the top of it, designed to prevent spontaneous movement of the car during parking. Use it whenever your car ride ends, and be sure to turn it off before driving.
Step 5
Before learning how to drive properly, learn the position of the gear lever, it is usually located between the two front seats of the car. On automatic transmissions, this lever has the following positions: P (parking), N (neutral), F (reverse) and D (forward). Such boxes can be supplied with additional positions (differential lock, energy saving mode, sport mode, etc.). On manual transmissions, the lever has a neutral position, a reverse position (R), as well as gear positions, which are numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. Also study the purpose of all elements of the dashboard.
Step 6
Always wear your seat belt before driving. Start the car, make sure that there is nothing in the way of the car, and start driving. Keep your hands on the steering wheel so that the left is at the 9 o'clock position and the right at the 3 o'clock position. So you will control the movement of the car as efficiently as possible.
Step 7
Whenever you make a maneuver on the road (turning, turning, overtaking, etc.) remember to turn on the turn lights. This is how you signal your intentions to other road users. Use them also when changing lanes from one lane to another.
Step 8
Keep your distance from the vehicle in front. Note that this distance should be increased on slippery roads and also in winter. This is due to the fact that the braking distance in such conditions is greatly increased, this is especially noticeable when braking at high speeds.
Step 9
Obey the rules of the road, never neglect them. At the same time, remember that there are different drivers on the roads. Be aware that some of them may behave unpredictably. In other words, if you see a potentially dangerous situation, try to avoid it before it gets you into trouble.
