Preparing to repaint your car

Before thinking about repainting your car, you should find a suitable place to carry out all the work. The ideal option is your own spacious garage, but if there is none, you can either rent a room or ask friends or acquaintances for help.

The first step in repainting a car is surface preparation. This can be done by abrasive polishing, that is, using sandpaper or a drill with a special nozzle. By using a drill, you can save a lot of time, but you should work with it carefully so as not to damage the metal. At this stage, the surface must be free of gloss and roughened so that later adhesion to the primer and paint is ensured. Sanding the car body is required with coarse sandpaper, step by step moving to a finer abrasive.

The second stage in repainting a car is getting rid of minor defects in the body by filling irregularities over its entire surface. After the filler is dry, it must be sanded to final level the surface. Next, you should degrease the body, using a non-woven material so that there are no fibers left, and a solvent.

The car has many places that do not need repainting, so they need to be covered with masking tape and newspapers. In fairness, such places are window openings, rubber parts and seals, windshield washers (it is better to dismantle wiper blades altogether), antennas, door handles and locks, radiator grill, discs and rubber, headlights and turn signal indicators.

The last step before repainting is priming the body. The primer should be applied in one or two coats over the entire surface, each time allowing the material to dry thoroughly. It is best to apply the primer with a spray gun without jerky sudden movements, without rushing.

Car repainting

After completing all the preparatory work, you can proceed directly to repainting the car. The paint must be applied using a spray gun. Each of the layers should be thin, and for an ideal result, there should be at least two. After the paint has dried, several layers of varnish should be applied over it to achieve an excellent result and shine.

That's all! There is nothing supernatural in self-repainting of a car, but everyone can do this process.
