Necessary

  • - sandpaper;
  • - orbital sander;
  • - white spirit or solvent;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - primer;
  • - putty;
  • - varnish;
  • - dye;
  • - protective gloves;
  • - protective mask.

Instructions

Step 1

Do-it-yourself painting of a car bumper is done completely or locally, it depends on the degree and size of the damage. Partial painting requires less resources and time, since a small area is involved.

Step 2

Painting a bumper at home involves preliminary preparation of the surface for work. It is cleaned and washed from impurities with water and powder. Then treatment with a solvent or white spirit is required, which allows you to get rid of the resins. After that, sanding and removing the old flaking coating with a sharp object is necessary. Using a sander, you should clean out chips and corners. In hard-to-reach places, it is advisable to use paper. If there are cracks on the surface of the bumper, they must be soldered.

Step 3

Cover all uneven areas with putty and wait until it dries completely. The surface of the bumper must be completely smooth, for this use a grinder or emery bar of great hardness. Reduce the hardness of the sandpaper gradually. When the surface is perfectly flat, rinse it again and let it dry.

Step 4

Then treat the surface with a degreaser and apply a primer, preferably in several layers. After that, leave your work for about a day until it dries completely. Do not be overly diligent in sanding and polishing, as no gaps should appear on the surface of the bumper. Otherwise, the procedure will need to be repeated. The result of polishing should be a perfectly matte surface.

Step 5

Car bumper painting is done only on a clean surface. Before painting, wipe the surface again with a cloth to remove dust and dirt, blow with air and degrease.

Step 6

Regardless of what kind of paint you use - regular or from a spray can - you need to apply it in 2-3 layers. In addition, dyeing requires intermediate drying for 10-15 minutes. When the painting is finished, it is necessary to apply 2 layers of varnish with intermediate drying.

Step 7

If you find smudges on the surface of the bumper, don't panic. After the varnish is completely dry, simply sand all the smudges with P 2000 waterproof sandpaper until they are completely smoothed out. Be very careful, otherwise you may wipe the varnish down to a coat of paint. Now you know what to do if the bumper of the car is damaged, how you can paint this part and what you should pay special attention to during repair work.
