Engine overhaul is a set of measures aimed at improving engine performance. During the repair process, it is required to bore the cylinders. This is the most difficult thing, you need to trust the procedure to an experienced turner.
An overhaul of the engine is necessary when the compression in the cylinders is reduced to an unacceptably low value. This happens for many reasons. If the engine installed on the car is still able to function, then it will be much more attractive to buy a used engine from the same car model. The legislation permits this, just ask the seller for documents for the engine. This will protect you from buying a stolen engine. Removing the engine from the vehicle
To carry out the repair, you will need an inspection pit and a winch on the overhead crane. With the help of a crane, it will be much easier to remove the motor from under the hood. The engines of all VAZ cars have special lugs. Just before pulling out the motor, do the following:
- disconnect the storage battery;
- unscrew the four bolts that secure the engine to the box;
- disconnect the pipes of the cooling system, first draining the liquid;
- disconnect the exhaust manifold;
- disconnect the idle solenoid valve wire, choke and gas cables from the carburetor.
Having disconnected all the cables and wires suitable for the engine, you need to hang the motor on the winch. Only then can the engine be removed from the pillows. Carefully disconnect the engine and gearbox, as damage to the clutch basket is possible. However, if there are plans to replace it, then you can not be afraid.
What to do during overhaul
The first thing to do is to bore the cylinders. During this procedure, the thickness of the liners decreases and the volume of the entire cylinder increases. If boring is not possible, the liners must be replaced. After boring, the surface is honed without fail. Honing is done in a mesh and under a mirror. By making it into the grid, you will get an increase in power, only it will not be felt for long. After 4-5 thousand kilometers of run, the mesh is erased and the power decreases.
Be sure to replace the main and connecting rod bearings. Make sure that they fit snugly against the surface and that the holes for grease are not covered. If you are tuning the engine, then it is necessary to improve the lubrication system, for this you need to make an additional groove in the liners. It is unrealistic to do this manually, since no file will take hardened steel. Only competent specialists on good machines are able to perform this operation with high quality.
