With the onset of winter, it comes as a big surprise for many car enthusiasts that their car does not start as before. Now practically no one prepares the car for the winter period. In addition to changing wheels, all other elements of the car are considered all-season. When the temperature drops below -10C, this approach to your four-wheeled friend will lead you to headaches associated with starting a cold engine.
Instructions
Step 1
When the car is parked for a long time (for example, overnight) during an extreme cold snap, remove the battery and take it to a warm room. Better yet, replace the battery with a new one. If you bought a working battery relatively recently, sand its terminals with sandpaper.
Step 2
Change the engine oil before winter operation of the car to a less viscous (synthetics or semi-synthetics). It will not be superfluous to check the spark plugs for carbon deposits and, if necessary, replace them with new ones. Refuel only with high quality gasoline. Diluted fuel in cold weather is a real disaster for the engine. Make sure that there is more than half of the fuel in the gas tank when leaving the car in the parking lot. Otherwise, harmful condensation forms in the fuel system, which can complicate starting a car and lead to costly repairs.
Step 3
Before starting the car, turn on the low beam, then the foglights, heated windows and high beam. This sequence of actions will warm the electrolyte and increase its capacity. Turn off all electrical equipment (including air conditioning) and start the engine. Do not press on the gas during the first start. It is enough to turn the key in the ignition lock for 10-15 seconds. If the engine does not start the first time, then you do not need to be zealous. If you drive the starter for a longer time, you will not be able to start the car. Take seven to eight tries. The car should start. Warm up the car for five to seven minutes and you can go.
Step 4
If the car does not start due to a discharged battery, then it can be revived by "lighting" it from another car. Turn off the auto-donor engine and connect one battery to another with thick high-voltage wires, observing the polarity. Start an auto-donor, and after 5 minutes you can start the car engine with a discharged battery. We remove the wires and drive 15-20 km so that the battery is charged from the generator.
Step 5
If you cannot start the car, then you can try the old proven method. Engage second gear, depress the clutch, accelerate the car with another car or ask passers-by. After picking up speed and quickly releasing the clutch, press the gas pedal. The car will start. Don't let the car stall.
