Modern cars require regular engine oil changes. Despite the fact that such services are offered by numerous service stations, a number of car owners prefer to do this operation on their own. The main question that arises in this case is what to do with the used oil.
Delivery for recycling
The car owner may be tempted to pour the oil on the ground or into a body of water. Some people fill canisters with this liquid and dispose of them in household waste containers. This should never be done! Used grease is hazardous waste and can cause irreparable damage to the environment.
If you cannot find an application for waste, it is worth using the services of companies engaged in the disposal and recycling of this kind of waste. You can find them by looking at newspapers or classified sites. Usually there are a lot of people who want to buy waste oil from the population. The point is that it can be used as an inexpensive fuel for boilers. In addition, being filtered, it is suitable for reuse in some types of equipment that are undemanding to the quality of the lubricant.
Household use
Waste oil can be used to solve a number of household tasks. Since Soviet times, there is a known way to combat automotive corrosion with its help. The thresholds of the car are most susceptible to corrosion. Lubricant drained from the engine is poured into their cavity. At the same time, there should be no through holes in the metal, otherwise there will be enough liquid for a short time.
You can also use this oil for the treatment of the bottom and arches of the car. Of course, such a coating is inferior to a full-fledged anti-corrosion treatment with professional compounds, but it allows you to save money.
The use of used oil is easy to find if you are the owner of a summer cottage or a private house. Wood treated with such a composition does not rot and is not afraid of moisture. Having lubricated the wooden pillars that need to be dug into the ground by working off, you can save them from destruction. Such treatment will also help the metal pipes that you will lay in the ground - covering with waste oil will prevent or slow down corrosion.
Used engine oil can also be used for various equipment. If you have a gasoline or electric chain saw, the chain should be lubricated periodically during operation. Used oil is fine for this task.
Working out for heating is widely used. If you have a wood-burning stove, you can soak it with used oil. For this, firewood is placed in a barrel or bucket. Pour grease there and leave for several days. Such wood burns very well and gives a lot of heat. But remember that during combustion, harmful substances can be released, so it is better not to use them for heating living quarters and in stoves with poor draft.
Some craftsmen build stoves that can use waste oil as the main fuel. It is poured into a container and ignited with gasoline. Such stoves are usually used for heating garages, small workshops and other non-residential premises. Their advantages are practically free fuel and high heat transfer. But they require very careful handling, especially at the time of ignition. If the stove is improperly manufactured, combustion products can enter the room and cause poisoning.
However, there are factory boilers designed to use liquid fuel, including mining. They are safe to use, but they still need to be installed in an area that is isolated from the living space.
