Scammers are attacking! A new scheme for selling cars imported from Europe has appeared! Anyone who buys at a low price can become a victim. Isn't it better to use the services of trusted companies?

Fraud scheme: how not to be left without a car and without money?
Fraud scheme: how not to be left without a car and without money?

Hundreds of motorists who want to buy a car at a low price are falling victim to the new scheme of deception today. Several swindlers from Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania and Moldova have already been caught.

How are used car buyers deceived today?

Fraudsters sell cars brought from abroad, as a rule, from the Baltic States, but for the buyer such a deal turns into a lot of problems. The scheme of action is as follows:

  1. A foreigner brings a car into Russia, which remains on the registration register - of course, not in our country, but in the one where it was purchased.
  2. Then the fraudster sells it at a price not just low, but, as a rule, one that is half the market price. Of course, a lot of potential buyers "bite" at such a cost. Even the pawnshop never offers such rates. This should alert people, but not everyone thinks about this fact, justifying it with anything, but not deception.
  3. In order to spur interest and make a deal as quickly as possible, before the strange proposal attracted the attention of the police, scammers post messages on forums and sites for buying and selling cars.
  4. When a "client" is found, they convince him that everything is in order with the car, and in the presence of a foreign registration plate, no claims such as demands to pay old fines, customs clearance and transport tax will be presented to him.
  5. Citizens who are not familiar with the legal details of such purchases agree to a deal: the low price spurs on and for the same reason - the fear of missing out.

The consequences of buying foreign cars

The buyer pays the required amount, it would seem, everything - the car is now his, its price was unusually low … life is a success! But it was not there.

The first problem that comes up is the inability to register an uncleared car. This procedure, which had to be paid by the already disappeared seller, costs about 300 thousand rubles in our country. Now the payment is shifted to the shoulders of the buyer.

If you don't clear the car through customs in the near future, all you have to do is put it in the garage and admire it, or ride it through the vast fields and forests near some remote village. You will not be able to easily drive around the city, or even put it in a car deposit, because it will be immediately checked against the database.

But that's not all. For illegal presence of a car on the territory of the Russian Federation, according to the law, it is subject to confiscation. It is almost impossible to solve this problem, and if you take it up with the help of a lawyer, you will have to pay a tidy sum for his services.

In addition, there are additional negative aspects of such a transaction:

  • it is quite difficult to find a swindler;
  • car documents may be fake;
  • even if it is possible to detain him, our legislation does not specifically provide for such cases, as a result he will receive a punishment only for importing a car without going through customs, and for this he may be fined a couple of thousand. It is clear that this money cannot cover the real lost amount even for a percentage, and it will go to the treasury, and not to the victim.

What to do, where to buy cars?

To avoid such unpleasant situations, it is better not to mess with foreigners, especially from poor countries, to be more vigilant … and buy cars in trusted places, for example, in car pawnshops, where prices are really low, and there is never a deception.
