Alloy wheels for cars are becoming more and more popular. And this is due not only to their external beauty. Light alloy wheels have been proven to be more durable and wear resistant. However, in order for them to meet all the requirements set for them, you need to choose the right ones.

Pay attention to the width of the rim first. Experts advise focusing on this rule: it should be 25-30% less than the width of the profile itself. You should not choose either very wide or very narrow rims, because this affects the profile of the tire, which, in turn, degrades its performance. Incorrectly sized discs run the risk of reduced cornering responses, obstacle pull resistance and lateral stiffness.

An equally important indicator that must be taken into account when choosing a cast disc is its diameter. Recently, there has been a tendency to increase the mounting diameter of the disc. This allows the use of low-profile tires for the wheel. It gives the vehicle the ability to develop faster and better maneuverability on the road. And if, in the case of stamped discs, with such an increase in the rubber profile, the mass of the wheel increases (which is unacceptable), then light-alloy wheels do not have such a problem. However, keep in mind that you can increase the wheel diameter by no more than 1 inch.

Do not forget to check the diameter of the mountings when choosing alloy wheels. This value is more commonly known as PCD (Pitch Circle Diametr). The number of holes designed for fasteners is also important. Therefore, experts recommend choosing standard alloy wheels whenever possible. Otherwise, it is quite easy to make a mistake by a couple of millimeters, because the standard casting is done with a sufficiently large diameter tolerance. The mismatch of the holes and diameters of the fasteners will lead to the fact that the fastening of the disc to the wheel will not be complete, that is, some of the fasteners will remain loose. Not only will you hear a distinctive sound while driving, but you also risk losing a wheel along the way.
Step 4
The diameter of the central hole is also important when choosing a cast disc. The manufacturer adjusts the standard sets of discs to the disc hub. Other manufacturers increase this hole by a few millimeters. This must be taken into account when mounting the disc on the axle. Therefore, when buying, you also need to take care of purchasing an additional set of adapter rings, which will help to securely fix the disc.
Step 5
And, of course, it is very important to choose the disc in accordance with the wheel offset. This is usually called the distance that is between the longitudinal plane of the rim and the mounting plane. Consider this indicator carefully. After all, the departure can be different - zero, negative and positive. The handling of the car depends on it. It is necessary to select the departure strictly in accordance with the one determined by the manufacturer. Otherwise, you risk overloading the wheel hubs and suspension. This, in turn, will lead to costly repairs.
