Various methods have been developed and applied in practice for boosting motorcycle engines. Some of them can be easily applied in a home garage, some can only be used in specialized motorcycle tuning companies. Some methods are distinguished by their relative simplicity and low cost, while others are very technologically advanced and can cost significantly more than the motorcycle itself.
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the installed power limiter before forcing any engine. Without this, the process of forcing loses all meaning. Often, instead of a power limiter, a maximum speed limiter is installed. Delete it too. After boosting the engine, it is likely that the engine will develop maximum power and torque at higher rpms.
Step 2
Chip tuning is the reprogramming of the engine management system so that it develops higher performance. In practice, everything looks simpler: for boosting, the injection control unit is changed. To do this on your own does not require extensive knowledge. Purchase such a block for a motorcycle from a motorcycle store that sells tuning kits. Installation instructions will be included with the product. This method of forcing is suitable exclusively for modern motorcycles made abroad.
Step 3
If the motorcycle has a carburetor power system, a wide variety of methods are also available for boosting it. Bore the standard carburetor, increase the diameters of the windows, jets, change the settings. Or install two carburettors, on a two-cylinder engine. If you can purchase a specially designed sports carburetor, buy and install one. But not all models of domestic motorcycles can be matched with a suitable model.
Step 4
The exhaust system of a forced engine is also worth upgrading. Install a straight-through muffler purchased from the same motorcycle store. More serious tuning will be the installation of a completely new sports exhaust system. To install it in the engine, you may have to contact a tuning company.
Step 5
Turbocharging is a serious way to boost the engine. Tuning firms do not produce ready-made versions for all motorcycle engines. Even if you have a turbocharger kit, ask a specialist to install it on your motorcycle.
Step 6
Tuning the cylinder-piston group of the forced engine is to increase the compression ratio of the engine. To do this, change the combustion chamber by milling the pistons, change the piston stroke by installing a sports crankshaft. Adjust the valve timing and ignition angles to the new compression ratio. Please note that in many cases, installing a turbo or compressor on an engine will require not an increase, but a decrease in the compression ratio.
Step 7
In addition to those listed, purchase and install tuning kits, without which no forced engine is possible. This is a zero resistance air filter, a sports camshaft capable of operating at high and ultra-high revs, a sports ignition system and much more. Everything depends on the degree of forcing and the financial capabilities of the owner.
