A break in the clutch cable is a natural occurrence for vehicles with high mileage. However, this nuisance can happen to any car. Replacing the cable is pretty simple and shouldn't be too difficult.
Necessary
Wrenches, screwdrivers and measuring tools: vernier calipers or ruler, grease
Instructions
Step 1
Locate the nut under the dash that secures the cable sheath stop to the pedal bracket. Unscrew it carefully and detach the bracket. Take a screwdriver in your hand and use it to pry up the retaining clip, which is located on the clutch pedal finger. Also remove the case of the mechanism responsible for compensating for the wear of the lining.
Step 2
Remove the plastic sleeve and inspect it carefully. If there are signs of damage or wear, replace it immediately. Do not forget to lubricate the new bushing with special grease such as Litol-24. Remove the cable sheath seal from the hole in the shield in the engine compartment. After that, pull the cable end in the direction of travel and remove it from the groove.
Step 3
While holding the tip with a wrench, using a second wrench, unscrew the nut that secures the tip to the bracket located on the gearbox. Then remove the cable from the machine by carefully pulling it out of the hole.
Step 4
During further installation, do not forget to lubricate the bushing with a special mixture before installing the compensation mechanism. Then attach the shell stop to the bracket located on the pedals. Tighten the tip fastening nut and check if the tip protrudes from the driver end to a length of 0.1 to 1 mm.
Step 5
Install the cable and measure the distance between the fork and the driver. For each car model, this length has its own permissible value. If the measured value does not correspond to the desired value, then rotate the leash in the right direction until the desired result is achieved. Then press the clutch pedal several times and measure the distance again. Re-adjust if necessary.
