The bonnet cable is used to open the bonnet from the inside of the vehicle. Its cliff brings a lot of inconvenience to motorists. How do you fix this common flaw?
Instructions
Step 1
Examine carefully the place where the cable break occurred. If this happened in the salon, then gently hook the end with pliers. Pull towards you and open the hood. After that, pull out the end of the cable located in the lock spring. Then remove the loop from the handle and, unscrewing the fasteners in the engine compartment, pull it out.
Step 2
Get a new cable from a car dealer. Remember that it can be stranded and single-stranded, buy a stranded one, which is more reliable and resistant to kinking at various bends. Push it into the passenger compartment and put the loop on the handle. At this time, fasten the other end to the spring. To ensure the most effective tension, ask the assistant to pull back the hood lock at the time of fixing.
Step 3
If the cable breaks under the hood of the car, you will have to tinker a lot more. Drive the machine into the inspection hole and disconnect the engine protection, if any. Wait until the engine has cooled down, and stick your hand between the engine and the radiator, and, feeling the lock spring, slide it towards the battery. After that, open the hood and disconnect the cable from the lock.
Step 4
Find a thin, strong cord that you tie to the end of the cable. In the passenger compartment, remove the hood opening handle and remove the cable from it. Pull the worn out assembly out through the engine compartment and into the vehicle interior. Untie the cord carefully and leave it inside.
Step 5
Replace the O-ring. Then attach a new cable to the cable and retract the cable into the engine compartment. Secure it to the bonnet opening lock and inside the passenger compartment to the opening handle. Carefully check the functionality of the new part. To do this, close the bonnet and open it from the passenger compartment. If any malfunctions appear, try to remedy them immediately.
