Experienced owners of domestic "classics" are well aware of all the quirks of this invention of the Russian car industry. And for beginners, a lot may be unaware, for example, how to set the VAZ ignition. It is not very difficult if the vehicle is generally set up and working correctly. Consider the method of "field" tuning of ignition on a VAZ, without the use of special devices.

Step 1

So the symptoms. The engine overheats, poor acceleration dynamics, a ringing is heard in the engine at low and medium speeds, the car shakes at idle. This happens not only due to incorrectly tuned ignition, it can be in the fuel system, in the quality of gasoline, in the carburetor settings, and so on. However, in such a situation, the easiest way is to re-position the ignition in order to exclude one variant of the causes of the malfunctions, and move on.

Step 2

We start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature. We open the hood and arm ourselves with a 13 mm key. Do not turn off the engine. We get up from the left side of the car and look at the distributor (this is such a thing from which four thick wires go to the engine, and one is the same to a small coil). The distributor is inserted into the engine and secured with a clamping bracket, on which you will see a nut, which is what we need. We loosen it so that you can turn the distributor by grabbing the cover.

Step 3

Rotate the distributor. You will notice that the engine rpm will decrease and increase depending on the position of the distributor. Now we need to catch the moment when the turnovers will be the highest and most stable. Lock the nut and get behind the wheel. Now you need to take a little ride. At the moment when the speed will be in the region of 60 km / h, switch to fourth gear and sharply press the gas pedal all the way to the stop. By the way, it is advisable to do this in silence. If the engine responds with "vigorous bass" and confidently begins to gain momentum, then everything is in order. If you hear the sound of detonation (ringing of "fingers", it looks like a frequent metallic knock), then the ignition is too early. And if, when the gas is pressed sharply, a failure follows, and the engine “howls” and barely picks up speed, then the ignition is too late.

Step 4

So, you have determined how clearly the ignition is tuned. We stop, open the hood and again loosen the nut on the distributor. If the ignition was early, then the distributor must be turned counterclockwise a couple of degrees. If it's too late, then vice versa, clockwise. Turn the distributor very carefully, with a slight movement. After adjusting, tighten the nut and repeat the test run. If the adjustment is again insufficient, turn the distributor again, this time at an even smaller angle. Repeat the procedure until the result is close to ideal.
