The ignition system of the VAZ 2107 consists of a high-voltage coil and a distributor - a contact interrupting mechanism. An incorrectly set ignition moment can cause a drop in the power of the power unit or its increased wear. The supply of a spark in the engine piston before the end of the compression stroke is called pre-ignition and leads to premature ignition of the fuel-air fluid, which negatively affects the condition of the piston and connecting rod. Delayed ignition - the appearance of a spark a few moments after the piston reaches top dead center. In most cases, the ignition is set with a slight delay, however, too much time difference leads to incomplete combustion of the fuel mixture, which forms carbon deposits and a lack of power.

Preparing to set the ignition

Before starting the tuning of the ignition system, the car must be parked on a level surface, engage neutral and the parking brake, or place chocks under the wheels. Having opened the hood case, it is necessary to remove dirt from the distributor cover and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. The distributor cover is mounted on spring clips that can be unfastened with a thin screwdriver or awl. After removing the cover, you need to clean the carbon electrode and the contacts of the slider from dust and carbon deposits, after which you can start setting up.

The regulation of the ignition system in auto repair shops is carried out using a special stroboscope. At home, you can use a conventional digital tester or pre-charged ohmmeter. With a 38 key, you need to turn the engine crankshaft until the distributor slider approaches the first contact at an angle of up to 30 degrees. In this case, an ohmmeter connected to the ground and the contact bolt of the distributor should indicate the presence of a contact with zero resistance. Next, you should turn the shaft until the marks on the pulley and the distributor cover are aligned. If, when aligned, the ohmmeter shows a value tending to infinity, then the ignition is set correctly.

An incorrectly set ignition moment can be diagnosed by a prolonged detonation sound observed when the fourth gear is turned on at a speed of 50 km / h and a sharp press of the gas pedal. When the ignition is correctly set, the ringing sound lasts no more than three seconds. Prolonged sounding of detonation indicates an overestimated ignition angle, and its absence indicates an underestimated one. To adjust the ignition timing, you need to unscrew the bolt securing the distributor to the cylinder head. To decrease the ignition angle, the distributor housing must be turned clockwise, and to increase it, counterclockwise. After making the adjustment, it is necessary to install the distributor cover in place
