The electronic ignition systems of modern mopeds have fairly reliable but expensive components. Therefore, in the event of a malfunction of the ignition, it is recommended first of all to check the angle of its advance and adjust it if necessary. A professional approach to these operations involves the mandatory use of a stroboscope and dimensional synchronization risk.
It is necessary
- - moped operation manual;
- - stroboscope;
- - a set of tools for a moped
Instructions
Step 1
If there are measured risks on the moped, check and adjust the ignition timing using a stroboscope. But keep in mind that a good stroboscope is not a cheap thing, and for an ordinary mopedist it will not pay off due to its extremely rare use. Warm up the engine well before checking.
Step 2
Connect the stroboscope according to the instructions supplied with it. Connect the two power wires to the moped's power supply and the induction wire to the spark plug. At the moment a spark appears on the candle, the stroboscope will give a bright light. Direct it to measured risks. If they are in their places relative to each other, then the ignition is set correctly. The risk coincidence should be absolute or close to it.
Step 3
If the risks of synchronization clearly do not coincide or are not visible at all, the ignition needs to be adjusted. The method for adjusting the ignition timing is different for mopeds from different manufacturers. Therefore, be sure to read the instruction manual. Look for moderate risks on the alternator flywheel and on the flywheel housing. When performing work, be sure to follow the rules and safety measures.
Step 4
Pay attention to one important point - the ignition timing is determined only when the engine is running at a certain speed. Therefore, the stroboscope must be equipped with a crankshaft speed sensor. If this parameter is not specified, then adjust the ignition at idle, making sure that they are correct.
Step 5
Also, be sure to read the instructions for using the stroboscope. This is due to the fact that many manufacturers of these devices do not recommend or explicitly prohibit connecting their power to the moped's power supply. During the flash of the stroboscope lamp, there is a jump in the load on the power supply unit of the device, which leads to distortion of the readings when checking the ignition timing.
