Painting a car wing may be necessary in cases of damage to its coating, which very often occurs as a result of an accident or improper parking. Often, the wing does not change over the years, which is why its surface cracks and crumbles. In this case, painting is also required. As for the scope of work, it is determined individually, as it depends on the type and size of scratches and cracks.

Auto enamel is used to paint a car wing. This coloring matter has a non-uniform structure. It contains various pigments such as anti-corrosion, moisture resistant, coating and many others. The main pigment of car enamel is the one that is used to impart a specific color. You can paint a car wing with three types of enamel to choose from, namely: acrylic, nitro and alkyd.

Wing preparation stages before painting

The final result depends on the quality of the preparatory work. Therefore, the preparation of the wing must be approached with all responsibility.

Preparatory work must be carried out in a spray booth, and in the absence of one, in a clean garage.

To begin with, the car is thoroughly washed, after which it is dried, and the damaged area is degreased and pasted over with tape on all sides. This will prevent paint and primer from spilling onto adjacent areas of the machine.

Wing preparation includes the following steps:

- grinding the damaged area;

- surface degreasing;

- puttying works;

- cleaning and grinding;

- priming.

Large dents on the wing must be straightened out prior to filling.

Wing paint

The first coat of paint is the thinnest. It is also called "developing". After applying it, you can easily view all the shortcomings made during the preparatory work. If found, they will need to be eliminated using a putty for this.

When applying paint, the appearance of smudges should not be allowed, since it is almost impossible to eliminate them.

The development layer of paint must be applied to the wing in parallel horizontal lines, moving from top to bottom. The second layer is applied perpendicular to the first, due to which it will be possible to easily hide the shortcomings of the previous one.

You need to apply paint at a distance of 30 centimeters from the surface. If the spray paint is too far away, the chances are high that most of the paint will simply not reach the surface, as it will simply spray into the air. If applied too close, it is almost impossible to avoid sagging. To obtain a uniform surface in color, paint is applied perpendicular to the wing surface.

Each subsequent layer of paint can be applied only after the previous one has dried slightly. This usually takes no more than twenty minutes, depending on the temperature and humidity of the air. It is best to paint a car at an air temperature of 20-25 ° C.

If you follow all the recommendations, painting a car wing, even if done independently, will allow you to achieve excellent results.
