When the stove fan is turned on, a howling, grinding, squeaking or crackling sound may be heard. It may even happen that the wiring is working properly, but the fan still does not spin. How to lubricate and clean the stove fan with your own hands?
Necessary
- - flat or Phillips screwdriver (depending on the specific heater motor);
- - wrenches of the required size;
- - pliers;
- - a few drops of any machine oil;
- - new bushings (if you know in advance which bushings will fit);
- - cleaning cloth;
- - some alcohol or gasoline;
- - a hammer.
Instructions
Step 1
Disassemble or remove the vehicle instrument panel to gain access to the fan compartment. Disconnect the power terminals from the motor. Be careful not to break the pins that attach these terminals. Remove the nuts or screws that secure the motor to the compartment.
Step 2
Remove the blades. If the fan blades are not fastened with a nut, but are tightly mounted on the axle and you cannot remove them by hand, then slightly heat them. For example, a building hairdryer. The plastic will soften a little and can be easily pulled off.
Step 3
Thoroughly clean the impeller from dirt. This will improve its balance and reduce bearing wear.
Step 4
Disassemble the motor using a screwdriver or wrench, depending on the motor model. In some models, the body parts are attached to each other with curved tendrils. In this case, carefully unbend them with pliers and a screwdriver.
Step 5
There are also models in which the bearing locations are closed with special removable plastic caps. To lubricate the bearings of such motors, it is enough to remove the caps and drip oil into the special holes. If after that the creak of such a motor has not disappeared, then it will still have to be disassembled.
Step 6
Dust the case and removed insides. Inspect the sleeve bearings carefully. Their increased wear can cause the motor to jam. Replace them if necessary.
Step 7
Wipe rubbing parts with rubbing alcohol or gasoline to remove dirt and old grease. After the alcohol (or gasoline) has evaporated, apply a few drops of lubricating oil to the rubbing points. Remove excess grease with a cloth.
Step 8
Reassemble the motor in reverse order. Be careful: all bushings, gaskets, and other parts must be in place. Otherwise, dust may accumulate inside the motor, and as a result - its failure. Replace the motor, connect the power terminals. Observe polarity. Otherwise, at best, the fan will blow in the opposite direction and you will have to remove the console again.
