Take the steering wheel in your hands and check how smoothly it rotates and how all the steering components interact, inspect the steering rack protective covers. Please note that brake pipes, hoses and body parts must not come into contact with any components, including wheels. Friction of parts against each other can appear, for example, after an accident, and in this regard, turning the steering wheel becomes much more difficult, jamming and jerking of vehicle components appear. At the same time, a characteristic hum is heard in the power steering or parts in contact with the steering rack. In this situation, the vehicle must be repaired immediately.
Step 3
Carry out an external inspection of the steering rack. There should be no mechanical damage or corrosion on it. Check the condition of the hydraulic line fittings if your vehicle has power steering and check for any signs of leaks. Check if the cotter pins, stop flags and other important locking elements of the steering rack fasteners are in good condition. If you find that the steering rack is leaking, the car must be immediately returned to a specialized auto repair shop for repair. With such a malfunction, it is usually necessary to replace the cuffs and anthers, and in some cases drain and replace the oil.
