Very often, in the event of a backlash in the steering wheel or the appearance of knocks, repair of the steering rack of your car is required. This procedure is not as complicated as it seems at first glance, especially when it comes to a VAZ car. However, for its implementation, a number of instructions and tips are needed.
It is necessary
- - repair kit;
- - a set of special keys.
Instructions
Step 1
First, detach the metal plate responsible for heat dissipation. After that, unscrew the steering rack itself from the body of your car, remembering to bend the edges of the bolt retainer at the same time. Completely disconnect the steering intermediate shaft bolt and remove the steering rack, if you have problems with removal, try to wedge the intermediate shaft mount.
Step 2
Then proceed to disassemble the steering gear. To do this, use the special keys in the repair kit and disassemble the rail into a thrust nut, spring, retaining ring and stop. Remove the boot from the drive gear, remove the circlip and unscrew the bearing nut using an octagon. After that, carefully remove the shaft, and then knock down the rack housing.
Step 3
After that, prepare the parts from the repair kit purchased in advance. When buying it, make sure that the parts are designed specifically for your car; for this, carefully study their markings. Remove the support bush using a flat object (a screwdriver, for example). Lubricate the location of the bushing and put it back using the screwdriver again. Discard excess O-rings. Replace the roller bearing and also change the bearing on the drive gear.
Step 4
After that, the only thing left to do is to assemble the rail into the case in the reverse order. Insert the rail into the housing. Place the drive gear shaft in its rightful place. Tighten the nut, securing it with the circlip. Replace the boot. Install the steering rack stop, retaining ring and spring, securing with a stop nut. It must be tightened to a small stop. Plug the hole with a plug. Then apply grease to the rail and put on the boot.
