- key for 13, 17, 19;
- mounting blade;
- screwdriver;
- a hammer;
- jack.
Replacing the steering rack
Park the car on a level surface, tighten the parking brake lever and install blocks or special stops under the rear wheels. The front wheels should be directed in the direction of straight-line travel. Disconnect the terminals and remove the battery.
Hang up the front of the car, place stops under the car and remove the wheels. Clean any dirt and lubricate the steering rack threaded mounts with WD-40 grease to facilitate loosening of the nuts.
Inside the passenger compartment, it is necessary to unscrew the bolt securing the intermediate shaft of the steering column to the shaft of the steering gear. Use a large screwdriver or spudger to loosen the tie rod bolts by bending the ends of the lock plate. Remove the bolts and disconnect the tie rods.
After installing a new rail, it is imperative to lock the steering rod mounting bolts by bending the edges of the locking plate.
Unscrew 4 nuts, two on each side, and remove the brackets from the rubber steering rack mountings. Disconnect the steering gear shaft from the steering shaft. Remove the rack through the cutout in the right wheel well.
Install the new mechanism upside-down. At the beginning of installation, you need to make sure that the steering rack is in the middle position. The marks on the crankcase and the boot must match, the flat on the pinion shaft must be on the right.
To check the correct position, you can move the rail in either direction until it stops, then make one full turn of the mark on the boot to the other side, then align this mark with the mark on the steering gear housing.
Be sure to check that the wheel alignment angles are correct after completing all installation work.
