If there is a clear knock on the steering rack of a VAZ car, it is necessary to start repairs immediately, without postponing work on the back burner. You can send the car for service, but an experienced driver will cope with the rail defect on his own.

It is necessary

  • - jack;
  • - wrench;
  • - special puller for tie rod ends;
  • - WD-40 liquid;
  • - screwdriver;
  • - crafting table;
  • - a rag;
  • - solvent.

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, ensure the safety of your work. To do this, pull out all the way and tighten the handbrake, lock the steering. Place the stoppers under the rear wheels. Remove the negative terminal from the battery. Apply a jack and remove the front wheels. Take a special puller and remove the tie rod ends. The nuts of the clamps that secure the rail must also be unscrewed. If this process is difficult, use WD-40 fluid.

Step 2

Remove the rail. To do this, unscrew the bolt and disconnect the spline gear. Move the steering rack to a workbench and secure it. Start cleaning the part from dirt. To do this, use a solvent and a clean rag. After cleaning the rail, answer the mounting bolts.

Step 3

Remove the rubber plugs and cover from the pinion shaft. Remove the bearing together with the gear. Inspect all removed parts for wear and flush with solvent. Now pull the rack out of the housing. If the part itself is not a concern, rinse and dry thoroughly. Then apply grease. Using a screwdriver, carefully pull the plastic sleeve through the hole in the housing. Pay attention to the aluminum nut, which could be damaged. It must be replaced with a serviceable one.

Step 4

Be very attentive to the condition of the so-called "covers" and "mustaches". Check for play on the tip fingers. If no backlashes are found, then nothing needs to be replaced. Install a new plastic bushing inside the steering rack. Make sure the edges of the bushing are completely inside the rail housing.

Step 5

Carefully and carefully following the procedure, assemble the rail. Pay attention to the correct clearances when assembling the part and putting it back on the vehicle. Test the steering of the machine by making large and small movements with the steering wheel.
