The Kiev motorcycle Dnipro is very popular among poor motorcyclists, for whom used Japanese are very expensive, and the Chinese are not attracted by either design or quality. At the same time, each owner of the Kiev opposite strives to remake his motorcycle to the best of his strength and capabilities.

How to remodel a motorcycle

It is necessary

  • 1. Serviceable and efficient motorcycle Dnipro
  • 2. Dry, clean and warm garage
  • 3. A set of garage keys and locksmith tools
  • 4. Workbench or table with a vice
  • 5. Anvil
  • 6. Angle grinder (grinder) with a circle of 115 or 125
  • 7. Semi-automatic welding machine of sufficient power
  • 8. Compressor for painting

Instructions

Step 1

Before upgrading your motorcycle, gain some experience with the standard version without a sidecar. This will help to clearly formulate the motorcycle change program and determine the final result. Make a sketch, accurately calculate your technical capabilities so that the tuning process does not stretch out for years and decades. Disassemble the motorcycle, carefully inspecting all parts and identifying defective parts. Wash all components and assemblies thoroughly and carefully fold. Repair the engine, rear axle and gearbox as needed.

Step 2

Start with the frame. Depending on the desired result, you can lengthen the frame at the rear behind the engine by 50-150 mm with the propeller shaft lengthening or lengthen the frame in front of the engine (as on the Ural-Volk motorcycle). In addition, you can expand the frame for a wider rear wheel using a bent propeller shaft or gearbox, change the angle of the front fork (it should be no more than 33 degrees) and / or change the angle of the rear shock absorbers to improve appearance. You can also include minor modifications in the frame design: install cups for the front fork, reduce the saddle height, increase the frame in front.

Step 3

If a drastic change in the frame is conceived, it will be easier to cut it completely into pipes in order to then make a new frame from the resulting pipes. The frame of the Dnieper perfectly lends itself to electric welding, provided that the quality of the welded seam must be high. If you have little experience in welding, practice on similar pipes. If additional tubes are needed, take them from a different frame. Do not use water pipes - they do not have the required strength and have the wrong diameter. For welding, use a semiautomatic welding machine switched on at maximum current. The entire perimeter of each weld must be welded in one pass. Weld the frame on tacks to ensure the necessary evenness of the wheels. The mismatch of the wheel tracks can lead to an accident during further operation.

Step 4

The most beautiful, stylish and unusual gas tank can only be made by hand. In garage conditions, an uncomplicated manufacturing method using fragments and parts of gas tanks from manufactured motorcycles has proven itself well. So for the manufacture of a drop-shaped tank, tanks from motorcycles K-750, IZH-49, Java are well suited. Before starting work, clean the outside of the old gas tank by removing layers of paint with a grinder with a thin circle. Cut off the rusted areas and replace with 1mm sheet metal. Then cut the tank according to the chosen expansion pattern (in the center or on the sides).

Step 5

Clean the cut tank from the inside. In the area of the welds, remove the zinc coating so that it does not spoil the quality of the weld. Secure the expanded tank with welded threaded rods or rods. Then weld the pads. Weld with short tacks in different places so that the tank does not warp. Use specialized sealants or a mixture of epoxy glue and aluminum powder to seal the tank. Using a stiff brush, rub the sealant into a clean, grease-free weld seam. Be careful not to damage the sealing layer when filling the tank.

Step 6

If possible, put the bike on the wheels for the final definition of the wing style. They can be simply trimmed in a chopper style. It is not recommended to delete completely or cut too short. The front wing fulfills its function even at the smallest size. The trailing edge of the rear wing must be no closer than the line of the end of the rear wheel to perform its function. Another design is the super-deep fenders for an Indian-style look and excellent mud protection. At the same time, the lines of the lower parts of such wings should not be too low, so as not to damage them on pits and curbs.

Step 7

The easiest way is to make the fenders from metal, namely from fragments of standard fenders of other motorcycles. Before work, clean the workpiece from paint and rust. Weld with an intermittent seam in different places. Weld a soft steel wire 5-6 mm thick to the finished edge. Install metal strips inside the wing to secure the wiring. The rear fender must be designed and installed so that it will not under any circumstances be damaged by wheel contact.
