Necessary

  • - aluminum thermostat from "Chevrolet-Niva";
  • - coolant;
  • - two lower and one upper hose from the same vehicle;
  • - clamps of various sizes;
  • - heater hose from "Gazelle" 1 meter long;
  • - wheel stud from "Gazelle"

Instructions

Step 1

Drain the coolant and remove the standard thermostat. Prepare new hoses. Upper and lower - from the Chevrolet-Niva car; make the middle one from the old lower one by cutting on both sides to the desired length. In order not to cut off the excess, determine its length at the installation site. Allowances of 2 cm should remain on this hose on each side to put them on the thermostat and power unit nozzles.

Step 2

Put the lower and middle hoses on the thermostat in advance and secure with clamps. Install the new thermostat in its original place. Don't worry if it sits a little higher than the old one - these are modernization costs and cannot be avoided. If you wish, you can try to fit it more precisely in a new place.

Step 3

Without changing the position of the metal pipe for removing the coolant from the heater, remove the carburetor heating hose from it. Cut the hose 5 cm, and from the obtained segment make a plug of the carburetor heating pipe using clamps to secure it. Place the remaining hose on the thin tube of the thermostat. Cut the heater hose near its branch pipe. Insert a hairpin inside the section left on the tube and plug it in this way. Tighten the hairpin and fix it with a clamp.

Step 4

Connect the heater outlet and the thermostat using a heater hose from the Gazelle. Route it so that it does not pass close to the exhaust pipes. In addition, instead of the standard stove pump, install an electric pump from the Gazelle car at the radiator outlet. Make the power supply of this pump disconnectable from the passenger compartment. To install it, use a standard stud under the expansion tank.

Step 5

As a result of the modernization carried out, the need to close the radiator in winter disappears, the time for warming up the engine in frost is reduced, the temperature of the air coming from the heater rises significantly. Turning on the electric pump accelerates the warming up of the frozen passenger compartment.
