Step 1

The reasons why the generator can stop recharging the battery in most cases is a malfunction of the voltage regulator or a breakdown of the diode bridge. For accurate diagnostics, the device is dismantled from the engine compartment and placed on a locksmith's workbench.

Step 2

Further, using a tester or the simplest ohmmeter, the parameters of the passage of current in the generator circuit are checked, and in case of confirmation of the failure of the semiconductors, the diode bridge changes completely. Replacing its individual parts is a complex procedure and requires the performer to possess certain skills.

Step 3

To get to the place where the diodes are attached from the generator, the brush block is dismantled, and the bolts are unscrewed, pulling together the front and rear covers, after which one part of the device: with the pulley and rotor, is separated from the stator.

Step 4

Putting the half of the generator aside, with a socket wrench or a wrench with an 8 mm nut head, unscrew the nuts securing the terminals of the stator windings to the rectifier unit, and after disconnecting the negative wire from the "ground", the middle part of the device is separated from the back cover, from which the bolts with insulators are removed and diode bridge.

Step 5

Having installed the new rectifier unit in its regular place, bolts with insulators are inserted into the cover, onto which the terminals of the stator windings are put on, after which the nuts are tightened on them.

Step 6

The rotor, together with the front cover, is inserted through the stator into the rear, then the generator body is bolted together, and at the last stage the brushes are installed.
