The power bumper has a very important function in protecting the vehicle from the effects of impacts and collisions. However, not in all factory trim levels, even for powerful cars, they are provided, some manufacturers do not even manufacture this part at all, even as an additional equipment. You have to tinker with the power bumper yourself.
Instructions
Step 1
Considering that the power bumper must have increased strength, a one-piece bent metal sheet is used in its manufacture. Depending on the design, you may need round and square pipes, an angle and a channel. This is a very difficult matter, since you will have to do cutting, welding, drilling, cleaning the seams and painting, in view of which you will have to acquire all the necessary equipment.
Step 2
Before proceeding with the manufacture, the car owner must clearly understand the functions of the bumper and its appearance. It is necessary to think over everything to the smallest detail - the attachment points, the presence of arcs, the location of the headlights, the numbers, the platforms for the winch and others. The material must comply with the established GOSTs.
Step 3
Build a drawing, you can use the old bumper as a reference. Build and calculate the drawing in such a way as not to make constructive changes to the car (and also so that the traffic police do not decide that the bumper itself is already a constructive change).
Step 4
Select the attachment points of the power bumpers in such a way as to minimize the number of changes in the body. Calculate the weight of the bumper and its ultimate load.
Step 5
Weld the bumper frame. Cover with anti-corrosion products if necessary. Fix the bumper to the car and make the necessary "canopies" - headlights, signal lights, etc.
Step 6
Reinforced bumpers are attached directly to the frame, and in its absence, to the side members. If a winch is installed on the car, then the best place for its location is inside the bumper. In this form, it works more efficiently.
Step 7
To protect the power bumper, a special device can be used - a bumper guard. By the way, you can then attach special windbreak cables to it.
Step 8
Front and rear bumpers can be equipped with winch pads and spare wheel mounts, etc.
Step 9
However, making a power bumper in-house can have undesirable consequences, since it can be done by licensed organizations. In addition, there is no guarantee that in the event of an accident, a homemade power bumper will cope with its main function - to protect the car.
