It is possible to reduce the fit of the VAZ-2109 car if you use springs with an underestimation or variable pitch. But the simplest and cheapest option is to cut the standard springs. However, this method is not safe.
The nine looks attractive, slightly planted. You should not, of course, underestimate it to such an extent that it scratches the asphalt with the bottom. But you can lower the rear part of the body by 5-15 centimeters, there will be no negative consequences from this. But the look of the car will be transformed for the better. There are two ways to reduce the clearance - by installing the springs with an understatement, or by cutting off the standard springs. Which method to choose is up to you, just pay attention to the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Choosing a way to reduce clearance
The easiest way is to cut 1-2 turns from a standard spring. This is done using a grinder, just cut it carefully so that in the end the two springs are the same. And you need to cut it so that later the edge of the spring fits into its seat and does not fall out of it when the suspension moves. To do this, you will have to grind the last turn with an emery wheel or grinder.
The disadvantage of this method is unreliability. Even if you adjust the edge of the spring as accurately as possible, there is still a risk that it will come out of its seat. Then you will have to remove the rack, compress the spring, install it in place. It is good if, when unclenching, it does not damage the body parts or suspension. But, as a rule, such sad outcomes are extremely rare.
But the installation of springs with an underestimation or with a variable pitch is the most attractive way to reduce the clearance. The cost of understated springs is the same as for standard springs. But the advantage is obvious, since the extreme turns of such springs clearly fit into the seats on the rack and the insulating gasket. Therefore, during the movement, the spring cannot fall out of the seat. And the car will look beautiful with such springs.
Removing the rear struts
If you are doing the work alone, then the easiest way is to remove the racks in turn. First, jack up one side and remove the wheel. After that, unscrew the lower bolt securing the strut and fastening the rod to the body. Using a special tool, squeeze the spring so that it moves freely on the shock absorber. It will now be easier to remove the entire rack.
You can find the nuts that screw the shock absorber rods to the body by opening the trunk. They are closed with plastic plugs. Keeping the stem from turning with an 8 wrench, unscrew the nut. That's it, the rack is removed, now you can put a new spring with an understatement, or you can cut off the old one.
By lowering the rear end a few centimeters, you will improve not only the appearance, but also the aerodynamic properties of the car. The front can also be lowered in the same way. Just try not to cut the springs in the front suspension, but to set them down. Still, the handling of the car depends on the front suspension, and with it your safety.
