Every car owner dreams of making his iron horse look at the highest level. Many people start transforming their car from the exterior. However, the interior of the car is equally important. Seat covers can be put on. But what about the torpedo? A very good option to cover the torpedo with leather. However, in services you will be charged a considerable amount of money for this service, so you can do it yourself.
Necessary
Automotive leather, tracing paper, drawing supplies, scissors, stationery knife, glue, thread, needle, hair dryer
Instructions
Step 1
Start by removing the torpedo from the car. To do this, discard the negative wire from the battery so that you do not get an electric shock. Unscrew all screws holding the torpedo. Take a look at the instruction manual. There you will find a detailed diagram of the location of all screws and latches. Don't forget to remove the steering wheel as well. It is best to get the torpedo out of the passenger compartment through the right front door.
Step 2
Now you need to choose the material and the method for attaching it to the torpedo. There are several options. Real leather is quite expensive, but it looks great. Artificial leather has a lower price, but it is inferior to real leather in some characteristics. The most ideal option is to choose automotive leather. It is suitable for all characteristics, as it is specially designed for use in a car.
Step 3
Make a pattern for the torpedo sheathing. To do this, you can use tracing paper or cheap material. Try to carefully measure everything on the removed torpedo. Keep in mind that the material must be taken with a margin. You also need to choose a mounting method. White thread works best for black leather. But it is necessary to make the seam very carefully so that it looks beautiful. Do not forget that the skin must be fixed to the torpedo so that it does not gather in folds and does not slide to one side. For this, special glue is suitable.
Step 4
After making the pattern, carefully cut the blank out of the leather. This blank must be tested on the torpedo. Make sure everything fits exactly. If any part does not fit evenly, then it should be adjusted. After making sure of the accuracy of the workpiece, you can start tightening. Start at the very top. Gently grease the surface of the torpedo with glue and stretch the skin so that not a single fold remains. It is best to warm up the skin with a building hairdryer. In this way, it is necessary to fit all parts of the panel.
Step 5
When the torpedo is covered, you can start processing the seams. Note that the appearance of your torpedo will depend on them. When the work with the torpedo is finished, leave it in a warm room and let it dry thoroughly. After complete drying, you can install the torpedo back into the cabin.
