An international driver's license is a necessary document in order to have the legal right to drive a car abroad. To get it, you will have to pay a state fee.
An international driver's license issued in the Russian Federation is actually a translation of a Russian driver's license into the main languages of the world, including English, Chinese, German, French and others. At the same time, it is worth remembering that in this regard, an international certificate is not an independent document: along with it, you must have national rights with you. This set of documents allows you to drive a vehicle in countries that have signed the so-called Geneva Convention. These include such popular tourist destinations as Hong Kong, Dominican Republic, Cyprus and others.
Obtaining an international certificate
The process of obtaining an international driving license is not too difficult. To do this, you must contact the traffic police department of your region, providing the necessary documents. These include an application for the issuance of an international license, a valid driver's license and passport, a medical certificate confirming the compliance of the driver's health with the established requirements, as well as a photograph measuring 35 by 45 millimeters.
It should be noted that the state service for the issuance of internationally recognized certificates is not provided by all territorial divisions of the traffic police, therefore, before contacting a specific department with an application for issuance, it is worth calling there and clarifying whether it is possible to obtain international rights in this particular department.
At the same time, you will not have to take any exams or be tested to obtain a document: after all, it actually only confirms your skills, recorded by a Russian driver's license. However, the validity period of such a document is much shorter than that of a national certificate: it is three years from the date of issue.
The issuance of an international driver's license in the traffic police is usually carried out directly on the day of application. Therefore, within a few hours after visiting this institution, you will receive a small A6 booklet in your hands, which will be a confirmation of your right to drive a vehicle abroad.
Fee for issuing a certificate
To the list of documents that must be submitted to the traffic police in order to obtain an international driver's license, you will need to attach a receipt that confirms the fact of payment of the state duty for the provision of this service. Its size in accordance with the current regulatory legal acts is currently 1000 rubles. You can pay for it at any bank, having previously specified the details required for payment on the website of your territorial branch of the traffic police.
