Instructions

Step 1

When buying a car, check the entries in the vehicle's passport. It must contain the main technical characteristics of the car, identifiers, information about the owner and information about whether the car is registered or not. If the car dealership did not give you a temporary (transit) license plate, then within 5 days you must register the car with the traffic police. The presence of a transit number increases this period to 20 days.

Step 2

Pass technical inspection (MOT). To do this, pay a ticket to the traffic police for the inspection (300 rubles) and go to any accredited maintenance operator. The inspection is performed using diagnostic equipment and upon completion, if the result is successful, you will be handed a diagnostic card.

Step 3

Take out compulsory insurance (OSAGO policy). Note that you will need a valid diagnostic card to complete this document. The choice of an insurance company must be approached carefully, despite the fact that the Internet is replete with offers. Choose only reliable companies, otherwise, if the company goes bankrupt, your insurance will be depreciated.

Step 4

Prepare the necessary documents for registration of the car. The main document confirming the completed transaction is the purchase and sale agreement (check the agreement with a notary). Any contract must be accompanied by: an acceptance certificate (says that you really received the car) and an invoice receipt (confirms that the seller received money from you). Also, the traffic police must provide a passport and a receipt for payment of taxes and the purchased car.

Step 5

Pay all necessary government fees to register your car. Issuance of a permanent license plate will cost you 1,500 rubles, and a certificate of registration of transport in 300 rubles.
