It is no secret that in the huge number of road accidents that occur annually in Russia, a considerable share of the fault of pedestrians. After all, a pedestrian does not pass an examination on knowledge of traffic rules. And this knowledge is vitally important. You need to be especially careful if you are walking along the road.
The era of pedestrians
Once upon a time people only moved on foot. Then the horses were tamed, and the riders appeared. One of the greatest human inventions - the yoke - made it possible to harness a horse into a cart, passenger carriages appeared, and it became more difficult to walk on roads and narrow city streets. In cities, sidewalks have begun to be built for pedestrians.
"Hit by a horse" - such reports of road accidents began to appear in newspapers long before the era of automobiles. There have always been scattered and inattentive pedestrians.
Pedestrian is the same road user
The most frequent road accidents involving pedestrians occur at intersections and when trying to cross the street outside the designated crossing. How to correctly and where to cross the city street, they teach, starting from kindergarten. However, violations are committed on both sides. It is equally important to follow the rules when driving on roads both inside and outside the settlement.
If you walk down the road
Moving around the city, a pedestrian must walk along the sidewalk and not go out onto the roadway. And what is the right way to move if you went on foot to a neighboring settlement, and the way there lies only along the motorway, which practically does not even have a shoulder? In this case, it is imperative to walk on the left side towards the moving traffic stream. So you can, every time, when an oncoming car approaches, objectively assess the developing situation and choose in advance a suitable place away from the roadway, where you can get up and wait. The driver of the oncoming car, seeing you facing him, will be sure of the adequacy of your behavior.
If, while moving on foot, you want to "catch a ride", signal to passing drivers from your left side. Cross the road to the stopped car, let passing vehicles and making sure that you are completely safe.
Driving on roads at night
Walking on an unlit road at night is especially dangerous. Such transitions should be made only if absolutely necessary. But it happens that in winter, schoolchildren go to school when it is not yet fully dawn, or already at dusk they return after the second shift. In this case, parents should purchase outerwear for them with reflective elements on a jacket, trousers, on a headdress. On sale today there are backpacks with reflectors. Then the driver of the oncoming car, having seen the pedestrian in advance, will switch the headlights to the dipped beam and will not blind the traveler.
