When driving in the dark, it is very important that the headlights illuminate the road well, and that the dipped beam does not dazzle the drivers of all oncoming cars. That is why, in order to ensure maximum traffic safety for all its participants, it is necessary to be able to correctly and timely adjust the direction of the light beams of the main headlights.
Instructions
Step 1
To adjust the headlights yourself, fill in a full tank of gas and park your car 12 meters in front of a flat wall. Measure the tire pressure and, if necessary, try to adjust it to the nominal pressure. Carry out a visual inspection of the headlights, thoroughly wash them from dirt and check the performance of the bulbs. If damaged parts are found, they must be replaced.
Step 2
After that, turn on the headlights and, if necessary, set the dimmer to position 0. Rock the car from side to side so that all suspension parts can take their natural working position, and ask someone of your weight to get behind the wheel.
Step 3
When all the preparations have been made, proceed to drawing the markings on the wall. First, mark two points that will correspond to the centers of each of the headlights. They should be at the same distance from each other and from the floor as the centers of the headlights. Draw a line between them and mark it as 1. Parallel to this line, draw a second 12 cm below and a third 22 cm below. The markup is ready and you can go directly to the adjustment.
Step 4
Turn on the low beam and cover one of the headlights with a thick piece of cardboard or plywood. The upper limit of the headlamp spotlight must coincide with the second line. If the car is equipped with fog lamps, then the border of their light spot should be located on line 3.
Step 5
The points of intersection of the inclined and horizontal sections of the boundaries of the light spots should be on the second and third lines, below the points that correspond to the centers of the main headlights. If any of the criteria does not match, adjust their position horizontally and vertically using the screws located under the hood.
