It happens that the car battery is discharged and fails at the most inopportune moment. Do you need to start up and get somewhere, but don't have time to run and buy a new battery? If there is a volunteer in your yard or garage with a charged battery, then you have every chance to start the car.
Necessary
- - donor car with a charged battery
- - a set of wires with metal clamps at the ends
- - protective gloves
Instructions
Step 1
Connect the wires. Ask your neighbor to bring his car close enough to yours to connect the batteries. Of course, the cars should not touch in any way: not only will this lead to minor body repairs, but you still risk getting a short circuit instead of a running engine.
Now completely turn off all electrical appliances of both cars, turn off the donor engine, raise the hoods of both cars and put on protective gloves.
Using one of the wires, connect the terminals of both batteries with the "+" sign. Use the second wire to connect the terminal marked "-" of the charged battery to the engine mount of your car or the block of cylinders. Do this as far away from the battery as possible. We leave the terminal with the "-" sign of your discharged battery as it is and do not connect it to anything.
Step 2
Start the donor car. Let the car run for ten to fifteen minutes: this is enough time for the charge level in your battery to rise, and the battery has enough energy to spin the starter and give a spark to the candles.
Step 3
Start your car. If the starter cranks but still has insufficient energy, allow the battery another ten minutes to recharge.
After you have started your car, do not rush to remove the wires: let the machines run together for a while. Three minutes should be enough.
Step 4
Turn on some of your car's electrical appliances. For example, start the fan and turn on the heated glass. Do not turn on the headlights: when disconnecting the donor car, a power surge may occur, and this, with the headlights on, may cost you new bulbs.
Step 5
Disconnect the wires. Ask your neighbor to turn off the donor car, put on protective gloves again and carefully disconnect all wires: first from the terminal with the "-" sign, then from the terminal with the "+" sign.
Don't forget to thank your neighbor and buy yourself a new battery along the way.
